چکیده

While the capacity of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) has received considerable attention, the issue of endto-end latency has been largely ignored. As MANETs get larger and denser with an increasing number of end-to-end hops, the latency and jitter experienced by packets will be prohibitively high for existing and emerging real-time applications. We present and evaluate a design concept for achieving an order-of-magnitude latency reduction in large-scale MANETs. Our approach includes two key components: a relay oriented physical layer that uses cut-through relaying by pipelining the bits through the receive and transmit chains; and a path access control mechanism for reserving the floor multiple hops at a time. We present a rough numerical analysis of the relative performance gain from our ideas, complemented by a simulation-based analysis. Our study shows that, depending upon the parameters used, a 4x 10x reduction in latency over legacy systems is possible using the mechanisms described in this paper. Finally, we present some thoughts on implementation of our proposed system.

Effective Video Streaming with Low Latency over MANET

In this paper we address the challenge of delivering a video stream with low latency in MANET. The major challenges while streaming video over MANETs are latency, control overhead. Latency and control overhead can be reduced by using Enhanced Efficient Geographic Multicast Protocol (EEGMP). The EEGMP uses a virtual-zone-based structure to implement scalable and efficient group membership manage...

A New Ultra-low Latency Message Transfer Mechanism

Cluster computing is still the most cost-effective solution to meet the increasing demand for computing power. Clusters are typically based on commodity computing hardware with specialized interconnection networks (IN). These cluster interconnects differ from commodity networks by higher bandwidth, lower latency, lower CPU utilization and improved scalability. But even with these sophisticated ...

A Low-Latency TDMA Scheduler for Multi-hop Cluster Based MANETs with Directional Antennas

For Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) applications which involve large propagation delays and/or directional antennas, a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) Medium Access Control (MAC) is a resourceand bandwidthefficient solution. Meanwhile, clustering is a solution to the scalability and high mobility which is commonly required by MANETs. Here we develop a system which combines a TDMA MAC using d...

A novel efficient power-saving MAC protocol for multi-hop MANETs

Following recent advances in the performance of ad hoc networks, the limited life of batteries in mobile devices poses a bottleneck in their development. Consequently, how to minimize power consumption in the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer of ad hoc networks is an essential issue. The power-saving mode (PSM) of IEEE 802.11 involves the Timing Synchronization Function to reduce power consumpt...

Prophet address allocation for large scale MANETs q

A mobile device in a MANET must be assigned a free IP address before it may participate in unicast communication. This is a fundamental and difficult problem in the practical use of any MANET. Several solutions have been proposed. However, these approaches have different drawbacks. A new IP address allocation algorithm, namely prophet address allocation, is proposed in the paper. The proposed s...
